About your 2016 Medal
This year our medal is more like an 18th or 19th century “order” which was worn much like a brooch or suspended from an elegant ribbon. As depicted, the medals for the Full and Half are of the same design, except for applicable wording, color rings and metal color. The obverse of both depicts the Portland Rose in a deep three dimensional design (look for the two tiny runners in the rose’s center). The reverse is an adaptation of the famous St Gauden’s gold $20 coin. The changes are as follows: Liberty is Portlandia; Portlandia carries a trident rather than a torch; she holds a fir tree rather than a laural spray; there is an outline of the City of Portland under Mt. Hood rather than the Washington DC Capitol Building; there are roses and rose leaves rather than acorns and oak leaves; and, there are 45 stars for our 45th Anniversary rather than 48 stars for the 48 states.
The ribbons for both medals are befitting the elegance of each medal design and include the same colors as the medal. And each medal is attached to the ribbon in a way that allows the medal to hang well on the recipient regardless of which side is visible—there’s no blank side!
2017 Early Bird Registration
The 2017 Portland Marathon and Portland Marathon Half will take place on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017. We encourage our local running community as well as those visiting our beautiful city to take advantage of these early bird rates for our 2017 events. Both events are limited in entries, and the 2017 Portland Marathon Half will close its public registration January 31 unless it sells out sooner.
Top Rated and Best in the Northwest
The Portland Marathon is rated as one of the premier marathons in the U.S. and one of the top 10 road race events in the U.S, and one of the top 40 races of all types and distances. Runner’s World called the Portland Marathon “The best people’s marathon in the West” and for the past ten years has ranked it as one of the top marathons in the country. We are also very proud of previous rankings by the Ultimate Guide to Marathons which has listed the Portland Marathon as: “The best organized Marathon in North America” & “One of the top 3 marathons to do as a first marathon”
