There are several options for participants: a full marathon, half marathon or 10K. We have a limited number of premium half marathon spots available (these can only be obtained through a charity – they are sold out), so sign up today for team VOA! Team members make a fundraising pledge to VOA. Pledges are very achievable, and we encourage participants to continue fundraising until race time. Portland Marathon Likely to Close In July!!Portland Marathon Event Director, Les Smith, is very excited for this year's event (as he is for every year). He has great information to share with you about the rate at which the event is selling out. Here's what he had to say in our latest Questions and Answers session about the events on 10-10-10.
Q: What is all of this noise about the event selling out sooner than ever before?
A: We will close early this year....probably sometime in July. The number of registrants for the full marathon is phenomenal. We are now over 4,000 ahead of where we were at this time last year. Q: Why is that? A: At first we thought it was the impact of the special offers we have made to those on our email lists. But the registrants are not from those lists and they pay full price. In April we averaged 35 entries a day, May had an average of 45 a day and June is starting to trend toward 55. It is not hard to do the math on when we reach our 9,000 limit. We are at nearly 7,000 and remember, we have 3,000+ Portland Marathon Half entries.
Q: So, when will you sell out? A: We will put up a count down number on the web page soon. But what worries me are our loyal annual participants who always seem to try to register as late as they can. If they are not careful they will be in for a rude surprise this year. So spread the word....WE WILL CLOSE EARLY.

Classical, jazz, blues, rock, syncopated drums, marimba, Dixieland, big band, swing, country, Christian rock, Latin, hand bells, bagpipes, salsa, mariachi, folk, calypso, harps, Andean, Japanese drums and even accordions and polka—the Portland Marathon’s variety of entertainment is sure to keep you going at every mile. Over the 26.2-mile course, we'll feature at least 72 bands and entertainers at more than 60 venues. In addition to bands and music, we also have cheerleaders, dancers and of course, thousands of spectators. The musicians and entertainers who perform annually for the Portland Marathon follow in a very long tradition. For more than 20 years, the Portland Marathon has been a pioneer in live, on-course entertainment. |
10-10-10 will mark the 39th Portland Marathon. We have 74 entertainment groups at 53 locations along the course. Each year more than 12,000 people run, walk, or volunteer with the event. Proceeds from the Portland Marathon go to help local schools, charities, and non-profits. The event has been called the "best-organized marathon in North America" and has received national attention for being one of the first eco-friendly, "green" marathons. |
